Mexico Recap
A new kind of experience at one of our favorite spots, Montage Los Cabos.
We have had some pretty amazing “adults only” trips to Montage Los Cabos in the past that it was high time the kids got to experience the place we gush over in our household. I believe the phrase was “finally!” when we told them where we were going for Spring Break.
Todd and I have visited Montage Los Cabos a handful of times—once for my birthday that will forever hangout in my memory bank as one of the most fun trips with friends yet—but like I said, never with the kids in tow. This was a whole new experience from our past visits and I am happy to report it was equally as fun and might be one of my favorite family destinations after staying in one of the residences available on the property.
We had the benefits of staying at a hotel—room service, beach/pool, sense of security, amazing restaurants on property—but with the space and conveniency of a home. Our residence was ideal with two bedrooms, a king and two queens (each with their own shower/bath), a full kitchen, living room, hot tub, laundry room, putting green, outdoor barbecue and dining area. There was no dashing out the door in the morning to feed a hungry kid, instead we made our own coffee and breakfast, lounged with the view and had slow mornings—just like a Sunday at home. It felt like a true vacation.

Most days we started at the beach first thing, which is one of the reasons we love coming back to the Montage. The protected bay is one of the only spots in the area that you can swim and it has some of the best snorkeling along with paddle boards, hydrofoils, kayaks and more. After some beach time we would head to the family pool for lunch, which we hadn’t spent much time at in the past and the design of it was so fun. The kids made friends and were in the water 90% of the time. They took a break from the sun at the sand box (kids club) for a few hours of crafts, which they loved, and we took a dip in the adult pool.
Noting our favorite poolside lunch order that we repeated because it was so good…
*watermelon salad with grilled chicken // the ceviche dish we ordered twice in one day // sliders and fries // fish tacos // mango margaritas
One day we had a poolside cabana that came with a cooler full of drinks and they brought small bites throughout the day. Ideal for a longer day in the sun since you have a comfortable shaded area (Lila took a nap on the couch at one point) and such a fun idea for a special occasion or group as you have your own dipping pool as well. On the beach they have raised cabana day beds that look like a R&R dream—on my list for our next visit!
We decided to stay on property each night for dinner, all the restaurants are insanely good… we did Talay, Marea (their sushi bar is not to miss!) and Mezcal. Our favorite night was when we had a private chef come to the residence (you can choose from a handful of menus) and cook up the most amazing street tacos (Al Pastor, grilled skirt steak and local fish), homemade salsas, mezcal margaritas, flan and Mexican cookies that I may have had for breakfast the next morning with my coffee (when on vacation!). One thing we had never done before that was a highlight for the girls was a private s’mores set up in a fire pit/lounge area that is nestled into the pool. I might be ordering this kit internationally because I have not had a more delicious s’more. We will definitely be doing that again!

A few things of note that I packed for our stay…
A mom stopped me to ask what sunscreen I was using because it smell so good! Obsessed with this Supergoop Vanilla Orchid SPF spray. Also this thick sunscreen stick that I put on the girls’ face and also loved this Coco & Eve coconut body milk with SPF that was super hydrating (and also smelled amazing).
Mexico always calls for some bright colors… I loved wearing this tangerine ALC dress and used this fun gold coin bag every night—just big enough for lipliner, gloss and a hotel key.
Brought along a good sun hat, SO glad I did because I spent so much time in the pool with the girls and this hat saved my skin. I also have this chic black rash guard to thank, one of my favorite purchases lately and it even worked for Elin one day.
These jelly flip flops that worked for both day and night… just saw this new yellow version of them and that I’m coveting!
So glad I brought this body butter which kept my skin hydrated (and my faux tan looking good!), also just love the smell of it. Also want to note that the Montage has the best amenities from Gloss Moderne (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion) and I used/loved all of them.
Brought my favorite Anemos swimsuit, love this as it looks so good as a bodysuit with shorts too, also always pack their triangle bikini (a favorite next to the Eres bikini I’ve had for years) and this balconette bikini.
Such a fun yet relaxing four days in Mexico that is 10-fold one that I would repeat with the kids. I have a new way of looking at vacations now after staying in one of the residences and can’t recommend this set up at the Montage more. So ideal for families, a girls getaway or group trip.
Ok back to reality now!
xx Samantha
